MLT MUSTS: things we like

|Publication: Main Line Today Magazine

Hooters drummer David Uosikkinen has some old tunes he’d like you to hear-all of them either recorded in Philadelphia or written and performed by Philadelphians. The first, Youth Camp’s 1983 shoulda-been hit, “All My Mondays,” is available for download for 99 cents. The revamped version of the lost classic features Uosikkinen and fellow Hooters, Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman, Richard Bush (The A’s, Peace Creeps), Greg Davis (Beru Revue), and William Wittman (Cyndi Lauper). A portion of the proceeds from In the Pocket benefits Philadelphia’s Settlement Music School.

Hooters founders Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman surprised fans at the Gypsy Saloon (128 Ford) in Conshohocken for the band’s drummer David Uosikkinen’s launch party for his project “In the Pocket: Essential Songs of Philadelphia,” to benefit the Settlement Music School. The guys played a few tunes with Uosikkinen, including “All My Mondays” from the album, accompanied by Richard Bush from The A’s and Beru Revue’s Greg Davis and Mark Julian Teague. Two Leons, Hooters on top

HOOTERIZATIONS: There’s music new and old from hometown heroes The Hooters to tout. Band drummer David Uosikkinen has started a singles-oriented recording project called “In the Pocket: Essential Songs of Philadelphia.” First salvo, a vibrant piece of ’80s pop punk called “All My Mondays” (B+) done originally by Joey Wilson and his band Youth Camp, in which Uosikkinen drummed. The lively remake (think Elvis Costello meets Boomtown Rats) also features Hooters’ Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman, plus Richard Bush, Greg Davis and William Wittman. It’s available for a 99 cent download at www.songsinthepocket.org. A portion of proceeds go to Settlement Music School.
