Originally recorded by The Spinners in 1972 at Philadelphia's legendary Sigma Sound Studios, "I'll Be Around" is one of the defining songs of the Philadelphia soul era. Backed by the iconic house band MFSB and co-written and produced by Philadelphia native Thom Bell, the song became an international hit and helped establish the signature "Sound of Philadelphia" that continues to influence generations of musicians.
"When we recorded our version, our goal wasn't to reinvent it. We wanted to honor the feel, the groove, and the structure that made the original such a masterpiece while bringing together some of Philadelphia's finest musicians to celebrate it.
It's always been one of my favorite songs, regardless of genre, and it's an honor for all of us at In The Pocket to pay tribute to one of the greatest recordings to come out of Philadelphia's rich soul music legacy."
